Highway Pre qualification:
Contractors must submit experience information as well as financial statements. The maximum capacity of the applicant is based on the type of financial statement submitted and net worth "factor".
Pre qualification is good for 16 months from the financial statement date.
Contractors:
Applicants must pass an open book examination on regulations and statutes of the board and business management practices.
Plumbing, electrical, mechanical, gas fitting or explosive contractors must hold a Virginia master card or pass the board's applicable exam for those classifications.
Applicants must also provide experience documentation of two to five years depending on classification and applicant prepared financial statements.
The net worth requirement for the classes of licenses are:
$45,000 for Class A
$15,000 for Class B
All contractors shall participate in a recovery fund, the initial assessment is $25. Pay out limits are $10,000 per claimant and $20,000 per contractor.
Reciprocal Agreements:
Virginia recognizes the exam of West Virginia and North Carolina for electrical. Virginia will also recognize master electrician certification from Maryland.
